Congratulations to all swimmers who competed Saturday at CCSC. New state qualifiers were: Robert Klazynski - 500 free, Gianni Scramuzza - 100 fly, and Mark Reuther - 100 fly, 200 back.
Hey kids,
Louisiana Swimming has it's own version of March Madness: It commences earlier with the February NuWave IMX meet and runs through this weekend with the spur of the moment CCSC Last Chance meet, then rolls into March 1, with the recently erupted Crawfish Time trial [which is also the same weekend as the 8 & under Regionals] and climaxes with that wonderful roller coaster of emotions - the District Championships! And for dessert, we have the Short Course State Championship which this year not only occurs during St. Patrick's Day weekend, leap testing and high school exams, but also it is the weekend of the FULL MOON! The next four weeks will have more action packed moments than the new Indiana Jones movie.
Generally, if you have qualified for four or more events for state, you don't need to swim CCSC, March 1 and can't swim districts. You mission is to prepare yourself for the best meet of your life at Short Course State. [More on that in a later Blast flash] There might be a swimmer or two in this category who would benefit from the first two meets, contact me or Coach Emmett or Coach Bret if you think you do. We want to develop a good practice rhythm for you state qualifers so you are well rested, well prepared and very fresh for state meet. We want you to go to Baton Rouge very hungry for good racing.
[Goes with the Full Moon :o)].
If you have no state times or need a to fill out your meet card, then you should take advantage of the first two meets and if you stil haven't made the time, go for it at districts. If you don't make a state time there still is a very good chance you could be swimming in a relay at state - if the numbers work out.
The Blast team has a tradition of swimmers making state in their very last try and going on to spectacular swims at state. We're looking forward to seeing who our new district and last chance heroes will be this year. With the entries for this meet due right on the heels of 8 & under regionals, we need to have all Blast swimmers who haven't made state yet to sign up asap. If you swim in the CCSC or March 1 meets and make state, we can delete you from the entry. I would rather do that than be adding swiimers at the last second.
Ok, kids, Get those meet requests in now and avoid the midnight rush!
8 & under Itty Bitty Meet
The Itty Bitty's had a super little meet on Saturday. Jean Luc Dillon-Crawford, Logan Stevens, Jack Copes, Regan Descant and Kayla Carlos drove up to the Crawfish pool in Baton Rouge and swam very well. We are on our way to bringing a good group of swimmers to Baton Rouge for the 8 & under regional meet,
March 1 & 2.
NuWave IMXtreme
Congratulations to Trey James, 9 boys, Grace Tucker, 10 girls, and Claire Rasmus, 11 girls, for winning their age groups in the NuWave IMX competition. Gianni Scramuzza was runner up in the 12 boys competition and Madeleine Rawls placed third in the 10 girls IMX race.
The team placed third overall and considering the length of the meet, swam very well.
We had several new state qualifiers:
Tommy Barnett [19 & under 200 breast], Mason Drouant [11-12 boys 100 free], and Megan Jackson, [10 & under girls 100 free and 100 IM].
Catherine Walker, Sydney Walker and 10 girls IMX champion Grace Tucker stroked to 100% best times
Kara Kopcso lowered her pending state record in the 200 backstroke down to 2:14.94.
Blast Nation:
Great meet at TAQ this weekend. Blast finished 5th out of 20 teams - 2nd place LA team. We had three individual high point winners: Trey James, 9, Griffin Guzan, 10, and Kara Kopcso, 12. In addition, we had two high point runner ups: Madeleine Rawls, 10, and Rhett Guinot, 14.
This was a tremendously competitive meet. There were many good Texas teams there and even a swimmer from as far away as the
New York metro area.
In many age groups the competition was tougher than what our Blasters will
experience at state meet.
I am so proud of how our swimmers raced, we were fearless; we never backed down from a challenge. There are so many good stories to tell about our great racing! The best races that come to the top of my prefrontal lobe are Madeleine Rawls, 100 IM, Rhett Guinot's 200 free,
Trey James' 50
Crawfish Winter Invitational
Before I say anything about the meet, I want to give a huge shout out to the Knudsen family for being at all seven sessions of the meet. They were one of the earliest Blast arrivals on Friday and were still on board helping time and count for our last heat of 500 freestyle swimmers on Sunday night. They spent close to 30 hours at the pool over the weekend. Andrew swam the first, second and fifth sessions, Alex swam the first, third and sixth sessions and Zack swam the first, fourth and seventh sessions. All three boys swam very well for the stage of the season we're in, but the real heroes here were their parents, Janelle and Eric, who committed to driving back and forth each day. Each pulled in several timing shifts and were always there to pull for the team. You were the Blast Team Family of the Meet!
BLAST NATION!

Colin Babcock set a new Blast single day yardage record on Thursday December 27th. After stroking to 8,000 yards Thursday morning, Colin came back Thursday afternoon and added 5300 yards to his day's total. His 13,300 yards is over 7.5 miles! Colin has been a practice leader all short course season. His hard work paid off in the TAQ Christmas meet with Sectional times and team records in the 400 IM [4:19.96] and the 1650 free [17:09.79]. We are looking forward to great swims by Colin and the rest of the hard working Barracuda group in 2008.
Merry Blastmas!!
Thanks for coming out to the team's Christmas party. Everyone really passed a good time! Thanks also to all who helped with set up and clean up and to all those who brought food for the food bank. All the coaches want to thank the team for their generosity in gift giving.

CONGRATULATIONS ALSO TO KRISTEN JENNINGS AND GRIFFIN GUZAN FOR FINISHING RUNNER-UP IN THE VOTING FOR 12 AND UNDER GIRLS AND BOYS RESPECTIVELY.
The vote was taken this past Saturday at the Louisiana Swimming annual meeting.
Even though these are individual recognitions for outstanding performances by three of our swimmers, every Blast swimmer should feel proud. Those of you who trained side by side, lane by lane with these swimmers this past year, know that your competitiveness in practice and support for each other at meets not only made yourself faster and better but your teammates also. We have so many super swimmers who are capable of achieving honors like these. Go for it!
