When Grace Tucker stepped up to the poolside, to race the first heat of the 25 free, she was making BLAST history. Our first swimmer racing in the team's first meet. Sure, we were listed as "UNAT-LA", but by the end of the meet everyone there knew who we are, and I know they were impressed!
Unattached scores were not compiled in the team scores, but from what we could add up from the morning results, BLAST would have been in first place by a point or two. I don't have a complete set of results, but I do know this: we had 100% participation by every swimmer entered in the meet. That's the first step towards winning championships. The co-operation and team work for our first meet was excellent. I'm especially proud of the swimmers in the morning warmups. All the parents did a great job either timing, cheering or helping get swimmers to their races. I especially want to thank the parents who timed in the afternoon session. We supplied most of the timers for that session.
The Swims: The most exciting thing for the coaches to see in the meet, is how so many of our swimmers are starting to "get it". Many strokes looked better, even if they weren't best times, they soon will be .I know there were disqualifications in the meet, some were surprises. Once I get the slips back, I will go over them with the swimmers at practice. Our long term goal is to eliminate all dq's by the championship seasons in March.
Individually we had several event winners: Jessie Kopcso, Kat Snitzer, Griffin Guzan, Grant Gallaspy and Kara Kopcso all won individual events, but the best part was over 20 swimmers scored!
See ya poolside!
